Eric Velasquez
Eric Velasquez earned his BFA from the School of Visual Arts and has illustrated over 35 children’s books. His first book “The Piano Man” by Debbie Chocolate, won a Coretta-Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent. He wrote and illustrated “Grandma’s Records” followed by “Grandma’s Gift” that won a Pura Belpre’ Award for illustration. He illustrated “Schomburg: The Man Who Built a Library” by Carole Boston Weatherford which won a Walter Award. Eric wrote and illustrated “Octopus Stew”, the Spanish version “Pulpo Quisado” won the silver medal for Best Spanish language book from Bank Street College. Eric’s latest books are The Polar Bear and the Ballerina, and Pecosita’s Freckly Freckle Face.
